I ran to my brain
to begin this work with you.
I did not show
how grateful I am
(or the anxiety I feel)
how much I want you in my arms
how I anticipate
our airy dance
the release
of those incipient butterflies
from our
cocoons
to flit together
I want look at ruins with you
and at each moment
ask someone to picture us
to help us remember
buy you a colorful hat
share water in dry places
dine each evening eye to eye
bathe together
join in any intimate way
and then
sleep skin to skin
heartbeat to heartbeat
safely
